Vegan Pie Crust

Dive into the heart of wholesome baking with our latest creation – a 7-ingredient vegan pie crust. It has been crafted with care and thoughtfully chosen ingredients like almond butter, applesauce, and whole-wheat flour.
Course: Breakfast, Dessert

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup almond butter
  • 2 tbsp applesauce
  • 1 cup all purpose flour or almond flour
  • 1/2 c  whole-wheat flour
  • 1/2 tea salt, optional
  • 1/2 tbsp sugar or coconut sugar
  • 4 tbsp ice cold water

Method

  1. In a small bowl, combine the applesauce and almond butter. Spread this mixture on a plate or container and place in the freezer until it hardens.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, whole-wheat flour, salt and sugar. Stir to combine.
  3. Add the frozen almond butter mixture to the flour mixture. Using a pastry cutter or your hands, cut the almond butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Slowly add the water. Use a spatula to work it into the flour mixture.
  5. Knead the dough briefly until it comes together to form a ball.
  6. Place in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
  7. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the pie dough to form a 12-inch circle that is about 1/4-inch thick.
  8. Place the rolled dough in the pie pan carefully and smooth it out.
  9. With a small knife, trim the extra overhand of the crust. Crimp the edges with a fork or flute the edges with your fingers.
  10. If using for a no-bake pie, bake the crust at 400° for approximately 15-17 minutes.
